# CoinPaprika API reference: crypto prices, market & OHLCV data

> REST API reference for crypto market data: real-time prices, market cap, volume, historical OHLCV and exchange data for 12,000+ cryptocurrencies. Free tier, no API key to start.

The CoinPaprika API provides extensive and reliable data for over 12,000 cryptocurrencies, tracking them across more than 350 exchanges. Below are some of the most popular endpoints to get you started.

## Base URL

All **free plan** API endpoints use the following base URL:

```
https://api.coinpaprika.com/v1
```

For the **paid plans**, the base URL is:

```
https://api-pro.coinpaprika.com/v1
```

## Authentication

Most of our API endpoints are available without an API key. However, for higher rate limits and access to premium features, we recommend using an API key.

  Authentication may be required for certain endpoints in the future as we expand our services.

To authenticate, pass your API key in the `Authorization` header:

A successful response returns JSON with your plan, status, and remaining monthly quota.

<Warning>
  The key is the entire header value. There is no `Bearer` prefix, and no other
  scheme word: `Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY` does not reach the API. Most
  APIs expect the opposite, so if your HTTP client has a "bearer token" field,
  set a raw header instead.

## Rate limits

Our API has the following rate limits based on your subscription plan:

* **Free**: 20,000 requests per month
* **Starter**: 400,000 requests per month
* **Pro**: 1,000,000 requests per month
* **Business**: 5,000,000 requests per month
* **Ultimate**: 10,000,000 requests per month
* **Enterprise**: Custom limits

## How the numbers are calculated

Prices in this API are a volume-weighted average across the markets we track, not a quote copied from a single exchange. Our [price calculation methodology](https://coinpaprika.com/methodology/) documents the whole pipeline: which markets are included, how outliers are detected and removed, how exchange confidence scores adjust reported volume, and how circulating supply, market cap and all-time highs are derived.

Read it if you need to reconcile a `price`, `volume_24h`, `circulating_supply` or `market_cap` value with another source, or if you have to explain to a reviewer where a number came from.
